Goals:
The S1 Higher Chinese course is designed to equip Secondary 1 students with the essential skills and knowledge needed for Higher Chinese, while laying a strong foundation for their continued language development.

Students will learn vocabulary from the Higher Chinese textbook 1–2 lessons ahead of school, along with commonly used idioms and proverbs in secondary school. Weekly spelling tests (tingxie) help reinforce memory.

Covers different types of comprehension passages (narrative, prose, and expository). Students are guided through answering techniques step-by-step to strengthen their expression and summarizing skills.

Students practise various types of writing, such as emails and situational compositions, to build effective writing skills.

From the third term onward, students will learn about sentence components and practise correcting grammatically incorrect sentences.

Reading different type of Chinese stories

Each term includes news reading activities to broaden students' knowledge, improve their understanding of news structure, and enhance critical thinking.

In line with memory retention strategies, the content from every 3–4 lessons will be reviewed to reinforce learning.
